Southern hemisphere, latitude 13 degrees, 5,000 meters altitude.

In the Peruvian Andes, just a few kilometers from Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, Alberto and Mauro, two indigenous Q’eros, facing worsening climatic conditions, wonder why the land no longer yields the
fruit it once did. Perhaps it is their fault? Perhaps they have not taken adequate care of Pacha Mama (Mother Earth)?

Not far away entire mountains are being gutted for copper by some of the world’s largest mining companies. The changing climate and destruction of the landscape leave few alternatives for the indigenous peoples of the Andes.
